To our sisters, brothers, comrades, and freedom fighters in Hawai’i*: Our purpose in publishing this music is two-pronged: (1) we wish to raise awareness of your struggles by working to forge an international consciousness of everyone’s connections to these struggles, and (2) we wish to present to you, in solidarity, an anthem of revolution. We see that in this epoch of history, revolutionary movements are necessary as capitalism has run its course. Our people cannot wait, our planet cannot wait. We honor your elders who stood at the vanguard of this fight and commend each and every person on the ground. You are a symbol of hope for colonized peoples around the world. This music is dedicated to your spirit. *We further extend these messages to comrades in Puerto Rico also fighting for their right to self-determination.
To the masses around the world: Colonizers wish to break ground on sacred land belonging to the indigenous Hawaiians to build a large telescope facility. Don’t be fooled. This is not a battle between science and “the old world.” This is a battle between indigenous self-determination and the interests of profit. Imperialism, the highest stage of capitalism, as defined by globalized monopoly capital, manifests its way into our domestic borders through gentrification, and across our artificial borders through colonialism and neocolonialism, uniting us all in one struggle. Science or humanitarianism are often used as a “soft” entries into untouched lands, opening the game for more private development. Science is not safe from imperialist greed, as we even see that the beautiful Galapagos Islands, once used for research, are now also facing development led by private property. Science has nothing to do with armed forces plowing their way through people onto land which does not belong to them to study our universe.
We are all united by our struggles against imperialism, whether it is defending sacred lands, facing eviction, struggling to pay for healthy food, being forced to fund-raise for healthcare, or suffering under crippling alienation and depression in the heart of the neoliberal metropolis. This is not the time for idealist pipe-dreams of simple anti-state movements, as the domestic nation-state is only a small piece of the enemy. This is a fight against the globalized imperialist force who collectively enlists all capitalist nation-states to do their bidding. This is not the time for organizing around progressive Democrats who make concessions to the Imperialist state. Freedom within our own borders financed by international monopoly capital and their violent repression of colonies is no freedom. It is only international working class solidarity that can break our chains - we have nothing to lose but these chains. This is a call to the masses.
